A MATTER OF CONSCIENCE

Romans 13:4-5

4For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.

When people think of being disobedient to authority, the first and often the only thing that goes associated with that is the punishment or consequences that come from such actions. But here, Paul expands that to let us know that it is also “a matter of conscience.” A guilty conscience is one of the biggest blockers to having peace in our minds and our lives. Therefore, as Paul says we must submit to authorities that are placed over us by GOD in order to resolve the matter of our conscience not having the peace that only he can give us. ON THE WAY HOME WALK WITH JESUS being obedient as it is, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.
