Matthew 21:19-21

19 Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered. 20 When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” they asked. 21 Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.

21:19 Why did Jesus curse the fig tree? This was not a thoughtless, angry act but an acted-out parable. Jesus was showing his anger at religion without substance. Just as the fig tree looked good from a distance but was fruitless on close examination, so the temple looked impressive at first glance, but its sacrifices and other activities were hollow because they were not done to worship God sincerely. If you only appear to have faith without putting it to work in your life, you are like the fig tree that withered and died because it bore no fruit. Genuine faith means bearing fruit for God’s kingdom.

21:21 Many have wondered about Jesus’ statement that if we have faith and don’t doubt, we can move mountains. Jesus, of course, was not suggesting that his followers use prayer as “magic” and perform capricious “mountain-moving” acts. Instead, he was making a strong point about the disciples’ (and our) lack of faith. What kinds of mountains do you face? Have you talked to God about them? How strong is your faith? Tyndale. Life Application Study Bible NIV.

How often do we think we can use GOD as a magician. Just pray in Jesus name and it will be given. This is also a misused verse and taken way out of context. Jesus is NOT our personal genie that we can call out of a bottle when we need him and then put him up when its not convenient to have him around because he might see our sin and lack of faith. NO he wants us to have that FAITH of a young child that has total trust in us. He wants us to trust him even when the day has gone all wrong and we are so bummed out that we want to do as the devil is wanting us to do and question God. Ask why me Lord?? No he wants us to say OK Lord you are my GOD and for whatever reason I am here enduring this rotten day and gonna take a refreshing shower and sit down and talk to you a while , read the Bible a while and i am SURE you will either give me the answer or give me strength to deal with it and give me peace in my heart instead if all this frustration and anger satan is telling me to have. ON THE WAY HOME WALK WITH JESUS and NEVER allow satan to make your FAITH in JESUS CHRIST waiver.
